Studio FAQs & Policies
We want you to have the best possible experience at our studio! Here are some of the questions we get asked regularly, as well as some important details about the policies we have in place to support you through your movement practice.
If you have any questions, please reach out to us at info@uncommonpracticepilates.com.
About Pilates …
-
Pilates is a movement practice using machines called Reformers. The controlled, precise movements target deep core muscles, building strength from the inside out. Research and personal experience testify to its efficacy in enhancing mental well-being, improving posture, increasing flexibility, and reducing stress and pain.
-
It can be, but it doesn’t always have to be. Our class schedule has a variety of difficulty levels, and the Pilates Reformer machine allows instructors to customize the resistance and movements for each student to find the right balance of support and challenge. Usually you can start moving in Pilates at your current fitness level, and continue to be challenged throughout your journey.
-
You don’t necessarily need to do anything before you start, as our introductory classes allow our instructors to help you get oriented and moving quickly and easily. However, if you have a pre-existing injury, we have introductory packages that will allow you to learn how to more safely practice modified movements as part of your rehabilitation. Book today if you feel ready, contact us if you have questions!
-
In general, Pilates can be a supportive form of movement with many injuries, which is why we have so many students who are referred by physical therapists and doctors. If you have questions about your specific situation, we would be happy to answer them!

Stepping into a Pilates studio can feel like entering a new realm. To ensure you're as comfy as can be while you're stretching, twisting, and strengthening, here's what to consider:
Comfort is Key: Opt for clothing that lets you move freely in all directions. Think stretchy leggings or shorts and a fitted top that won’t ride up every time you stretch. You want to focus on your form, not fidgeting with your outfit!
Skip the Bling: While accessorizing might be a part of your daily outfit, Pilates class is the time to keep it simple. Avoid clothing with zippers or metal decorations that can get in the way or even potentially scratch the equipment.
To Sock or Not to Sock: Many Pilates lovers swear by grippy socks for extra traction on the studio equipment. They’re not a must, but if you’d like a bit more stability while you work on those planks and leg circles, they might just become your new best friend!
-
Packing for Pilates is all about the essentials. Here’s a quick checklist:
Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is crucial, especially when you're working up a sweat. Bring a water bottle to keep at your side throughout the class.
An Open Mind: Pilates can challenge your body in new and exciting ways. Come prepared to learn and grow, both mentally and physically.
Grippy Socks (Optional): If you’ve decided to give them a try, don’t forget to pack them! They can really help in making sure your Pilates experience is slip-free.

We love your families, but your movement practice is a time to focus on YOU. Please refrain from bringing in your kids or pets during your class or session! Service animals are, of course, welcome anytime!
-
We totally understand that things come up, and you may not be able to attend a class that you've signed up for. However, we do have a 12 hour cancellation policy. If you have to cancel less than 12 hours before your class, you will be charged for the class.
